Becoming a Leader

The following are the general steps to follow to become a leader in pack 007.

  1. Visit https://my.scouting.org/. Create an online profile or reactivate your existing profile if you were previously involved in scouting.
  2. From the training menu, register for and take the modules for Safeguarding Youth Training (Previously called Youth Protection Online Training). Around 24 hours after completion you will be sent your completion certificate. This will need to be attached with your application in a later step.
  3. (optional but highly suggested) Complete your online training for your specific position. (Such as Den leader, assistent scoutmaster, committee member, etc.). These cover the theory of how these positions, but take it with a grain of salt as it always looks different in practice.
  4. (optional but highly suggested) Complete additional cub scout trainings
    • Aims & Methods of Scouting
    • Cub Scout Uniforms
    • Pack Structure
  5. Please complete the below application & background check authorization for adult leaders.
    • BSA Adult Application & Background Check Authorization (on last page….. ppl often forget that part!): https://filestore.scouting.org/filestore/pdf/524-501.pdf.
    • Give the application to one of the adult leaders in person (Best not to email it since your app does have your social security number on it). Include the completion certificate from step two.
    • Pack 7 leaders will submit your application and YPT form to the Mecklenburg County Office. We will pay your annual dues as a way of saying “thank you” for your leadership.
  6. Get (or refresh) your adult uniform! The Carolina Scout Shop at 2121 Westinghouse Blvd, Charlotte, NC 28273 will have everything you need. Focus on shirt, 007 unit numbers, leader shoulder loops, neckerchief and slide. Pants/Belt/socks/hat optional. Items can also be ordered from https://www.scoutshop.org/
    • New uniforms purchased at the Carolina Scout Shop can be sewn there for reasonable prices.
    • For existing uniforms feel free to take your uniform to Lan’s Tailors, at 702 Main Street, Pineville, NC 28134. Very reasonable prices.
